Fathers Day

Originating in America, the first Father's Day was celebrated in 1910. Originally slow to catch on, now Father's day is one of the top five celebratory days.
Searching on-line, there are lots of things you can do with your dad - brewery tour, kart racing, visiting a garden or even skydiving! But sometimes its just the little things that matter such as taking the time to have a chat, make a meal or just buying him a pint.
Whatever you do - whether you are a dad or wishing to celebrate with yours - have a wonderful time!

Farming Fortnight

As I'm sure you will already know, LOFS 23 (LEAF Open Farm Sunday) is on the Sunday 11th June this year. WE ARE NOT TAKING PART THIS YEAR as although we love doing it, it is a huge commitment at a very busy time on the farm. We usually open our farm every other year, so look out for details about LOFS next year.
Meanwhile LEAF are gearing up for this national event and as an added bonus run a 'Farming Fortnight' schools initiative, which sees hundreds of schools take part in a two-week (5 -16th June) spotlight on farming and food production.

Farming Fortnight provides an exciting and inspiring platform to educate and connect children and young people with where their food comes from. Enabling them to make more informed food choices and help them lead healthy active lifestyles. For more information have a look at this link to their website.

The Pheasant Family

On route to to Colworth on his tractor, Tommy spotted this hen pheasant with (he estimates) 7 - 8 chicks or poults.
The chicks can feed themselves soon after hatching but remain with their mother for up to 80 days before they are independent. Well camouflaged with their stripy backs and light fluffy down, the babies disappear in the grass making it very difficult to spot them. Great spot Tommy!
Have a look at the video here.

Barn Owl spotted at Bedfordia

This time of year Barn Owl pairs are breeding so it’s important for them to be able to find a good source of food and nesting sites. Bedfordia Farms’ land offers a mixed habitat with spinneys, ditches, rough pastures and well-managed field margins, which are the perfect hunting grounds for Barn owls. And our barns and outbuildings offer secure nesting sites too.
